On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, as part of the activities of the Center for European Studies (CES) within the Department of Political and Social Studies (DiSPS), a seminar for the ActiValEu project — Activating European Values: Cultural Models and Aspirations of Young People in Campania —, funded by the Campania Region, will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the “Biblioteca A. Santucci” hall on the Fisciano campus. During the seminar, the findings from qualitative interviews conducted with young people from every province in Campania — stratified by age, gender, and occupation — will be presented and discussed with the presidents of the CSV organizations in Campania and Technical-Scientific Committee members.

The meeting — promoted in collaboration with the CSV organizations of Campania — will feature the scientific director of the research, Prof. Massimo Pendenza (Director of the Center for European Studies), the researchers involved in the project Luigi Cannella, Nadia Crescenzo, Marco Di Gregorio, and Matteo Finco; members of the working group and the Technical-Scientific Committee; and the presidents of the provincial CSVs of Campania: Agostino Braca (Sodalis CSV Salerno), Umberto Cristadoro (CSV Napoli), Raffaele Amore (Cesvolab CSV Avellino Benevento), and Antonio Zacchia (Asso.Vo.Ce CSV Caserta).

ActiValEu Kick-off Meeting

Let’s get started! On 27 November 2025, the kick-off meeting of the ActiValEu project, on the values of young people in Campania, funded by the Campania Region - Directorate-General for Education, Training, Employment, and Youth Policies and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service, will take place. After greetings from the Rector of the University of Salerno, Prof. Virgilio D’Antonio, and the Director of DiSPS, Prof. Maurizio Merico, the scientific coordinator of the project, Prof. Massimo Pendenza, will illustrate the stages of the project. Speakers will include the managers of the Campania Volunteer Service Centres – CSV (project partners), local associations and UniSa students.

The meeting will take place in the “Gabriele De Rosa” Lecture Hall, Building D2, on the Fisciano Campus (SA), starting at 4 p.m.

Conference “United States of Europe. A realistic utopia at a crossroads” – November 27, 2025

On Thursday, November 27, at 10:30 a.m. in the Gabriele De Rosa Hall on the Fisciano campus, the Center for European Studies (CES) will hold a conference entitled “United States of Europe: A Realistic Utopia at a Crossroads.”
The meeting, promoted in collaboration with the European Federalism Networks and third sector entities, will feature institutional greetings from the Rector of the University of Salerno, Prof. Virgilio D’Antonio, and the Director of the Department, Prof. Maurizio Merico, followed by presentations by Prof. Guido Montani (University of Pavia), Francesco Clementi (Sapienza University of Rome), and Francesco Callegaro (Universidad Nacional de San Martin, Buenos Aires), followed by speeches by Francesca Romana D’Antuono (Co-President of Volt Europa) and Mauro Casarotto (Secretary General of FAEF).

The event will be coordinated by Prof. Massimo Pendenza (Director of the Center for European Studies). Senator Giuseppe Lumia will conclude the proceedings.

ActiValEu Project Meeting

Organized by the Center for European Studies (CES), a meeting between the Unisa Working Group and the Technical Scientific Committee will take place on Friday, September 5, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the “Santucci” Hall (Building C, 1st floor), regarding the project “Activating European values. Cultural models and aspirations of young people in Campania (ActiValEu). The project is funded by the Campania Region – Directorate-General for Education, Training, Employment, and Youth Policies, with funds from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2020 – Meetings with Schools

Closing the commemoration of the “Holocaust Memorial Day” (January 27), the Jean Monnet EuCuMe Module of the Center for European Studies will meet the students and teachers of the “Della Corte – Vanvitelli” Institute of Higher Education in Cava de’ Tirreni (Salerno) to discuss European memory issues.

The activity is co-financed by the European “Erasmus + – Jean Monnet Activities” program and is part of the “Jean Monnet Roundtables” organized annually for schools by the Center for European Studies – EuCuMe.

The meeting, entitled “Europe, memories and identity”, will be held on 30 January 2020 starting at 10.00 and will see the speeches by UniSa teachers:

Europe, shared memories and values – Meetings with schools

“Europe is much more than a free trade agreement. It embodies the effort to achieve a political unity at the foundations of which is respect for human freedoms and dignity.” With these words, prof. Massimo Pendenza, professor of the University of Salerno and director of the Center for European Studies (CSE) active at the Department of Political and Social Studies, inaugurated the activities of the second edition (2019/2020) of the Jean Monnet Module “European Culture and Memories” (EuCuMe) in the presence of the students and teachers of the high schools visiting the exhibition “I am Anne Frank”, hosted by the structures of the “Marte Live” media library in Cava de’ Tirreni (Salerno).

During the first series of roundtables, which will be held until December 20, 2019 in conjunction with the exhibition, Dr. Beatrice Benocci and Dr. Dario Verderame underlined how “in a moment of crisis of the European project, like the present one, it is more urgent and necessary to rebuild a sense of belonging to Europe on the basis of shared memories and traumatic events such as the Shoah” and as such memories “can act as a leverage for the reproposing, now increasingly frequent among young Europeans, of phenomena of intolerance, xenophobia and anti-Semitism”.

The dates of the meetings, free and open to students and civil society, are:

December 12-13, 2019 from 12 to 13
December 19-20, 2019 from 12 to 13.

Contested Europe – Meeting, debate

Partnership activities between the Center for European Studies and local schools are continuing. On November 29, 2019, at 9.30 am, the meeting entitled “The Contested Europe” will be held at the IIS “Gian Camillo Glorioso” in Montercovino Rovella (SA).

L’Europa che c’è, l’Europa che verrà – Incontro Alternanza Scuola Lavoro

Nell’ambito del progetto di “Alternanza Scuola Lavoro” dal titolo “L’Europa che c’è, l’Europa che verrà”, promosso dal Dipartimento di Studi Politici e Sociali (DiSPS) e dal Centro Studi Europei (CSE) dell’Università di Salerno, si terrà il giorno 22 novembre 2019 presso il Liceo Statale “Alfano I” di Salerno un incontro con gli studenti e i docenti dell’Istituto dal titolo:

2000-2020. L’Europa dei diritti a vent’anni dalla Carta dei diritti fondamentali dell’Unione Europea.

Intervengono il Prof. Massimo Pendenza (docente UniSa, Direttore del CSE e responsabile scientifico del progetto) e il dott. Dario Verderame (coordinatore del Modulo Jean Monnet European Culture and Memories). L’incontro è organizzato in collaborazione con la “Cattedra di cittadinanza europea” attiva presso l’Istituto “Alfano I”.

Settimana della sociologia 2019 – Incontro sul tema “Europa sociale”

III Edizione della “Settimana della Sociologia”

La Sociologia italiana propone anche quest’anno un’intera settimana di eventi, dal 14 al 20 ottobre 2019, in cui viene presentato al pubblico il suo patrimonio di analisi e di ricerca, prodotto dai docenti dei diversi Atenei italiani, riuniti nella Conferenza Interdipartimentale di Sociologia.

L’Università degli Studi di Salerno e il Dipartimento di Studi Politici e Sociali (DiSPS) hanno aderito a questa iniziativa. Tra gli eventi organizzati segnialiamo il seguente incontro aperto agli studenti e alla società civile, e dedicato al tema dell’Europa sociale.

Verso l’Unione sociale europea: un’agenda per una UE più coesa e solidale.
