We notice the new essay by J. Habermas entitled Year 30. Germany’s second chance, published on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of German reunification.
Habermas, never tender with Angela Merkel, makes an examination of the new challenges facing Germany. If, on the one hand, the rise of new nationalist and Eurosceptic political parties, such as Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), seem to force Germany to reassess its leadership role within the European Union, on the other hand, their very existence can be the driving force for the definitive German unification and full European integration.
